Northwest Persian Room Carpet

Northwest Iran·Second half 19th century

$11,000

The story

A room-size carpet of the kind made in the great workshops of northwestern Iran, where the weaving tradition combined Safavid floral vocabulary with the robust wool and direct color sense of the village weavers. The central medallion radiates into a field of palmettes and arabesques on a deep wine-red ground. This is the carpet that makes every other piece of furniture in a room look as though it belongs to it.

Nebraska private estate, 2018. Prior provenance unknown.
