Qashqai Tribal Kilim
Southern Caucasus·Mid 20th century
$1,200
The story
Nomadic weavers made kilims like this one as functional objects — tent walls, saddle covers, prayer mats — before the world decided they were art. This example has the bold diamonds and hooked border motifs that identify Qashqai work, dyed with plants in colors that have taken decades to soften into exactly what they are now. It was never meant to hang on a wall. It should probably still be on the floor.
